RMG ended 2013 with three cloud based servers in place:  RMG0, RMG2 and RMG3.  Uptime performance as measured by our monitoring contractor Pingdom AB (SE) for each system looks like this:

  • RMG0 – Uptime: 99.49%
  • RMG2 – Uptime: 99.99%
  • RMG3 – Uptime: 99.95%

Our downtime reports include scheduled downtime for maintenance and backups, which occur between Midnight and 5AM EST.  Most of the unscheduled downtime on RMG0 was actually due to network connectivity issues between Europe and the US which incorrectly were interpreted by our performance monitoring software as a down server. Half of our probe monitors are currently located in Europe.

In terms of response times our servers are averaging between 200 and 400 milisecond response time, which would put client site performance in the top 10% of worldwide Internet sites or within the range of the 10 FASTEST US-based e-commerce sites.  This has allowed RMG to continue it’s drive to insure that every client site is within the top 10th percentile of performace as monitored by Google and Pingdom measurement facilities.

We accomplish this through caching our sites, the downside being that it takes about 1-2 hours for site changes to roll out to the web. Caching means that about every hour our servers make a copy of your site on disk and deliver that copy to users rather than generating database queries.

RMG’s servers are co-hosted at C7 in Lindon, Utah one of the premier data centers in the United States. It is located in a FEMA declared disaster free zone and is the same data center that hosts well known services like Twitter.

Thanks for your loyalty in 2013!  We are looking forward to a great 2014 with some great internal projects underway, including our Content Delivery Network and our Chicago backup site.
